Australians dying for a tan

Other News Materials 5 October 2008 13:56 (UTC +04:00)

Forty-three Australians a year are giving their lives for a tan, researchers at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research said Sunday, according to dpa.

That's the number of skin cancer deaths linked to the use of sun beds.

The institute team said that of 281 melanoma deaths last year, 43 were likely to have been contracted in a tanning studio.

They called on the government to toughen regulation of the tanning industry.
