A Thai man and his pregnant wife were found murdered at a rubber plantation in Malaysia's eastern state of Kelantan, news reports said Wednesday, dpa reported.

Anuar Dahman, 27, and his 18-year-old wife, known only as Hasmah, had been working at the estate for the past two months and had no history of violence, said state criminal investigations chief Mazlan Lazim.

Hasmah was three months pregnant, he said.

Anuar's and his wife's bodies were discovered Tuesday when a friend went looking for the couple after they failed to turn up for work.

"The husband's body was discovered in a drum filled with water with his head at the bottom and feet up while the wife was found in a well nearby," Mazlan was quoted as saying by the Malay-language Berita Harian newspaper.

Mazlan said police detained a 21-year old Thai national believed to be a relative of the victims for questioning.

Officers were quoted as saying the couple did not have stab wounds on their bodies, adding that police were investigating the cause of their murders.
