The Mexican navy says it has detained a go-fast boat off the Caribbean coast carrying 15

undocumented Cuban migrants, the Associated Press reported.

The Navy says 14 men and one woman have been found about 69 miles (110 kms) southeast of Isla Mujeres, an island near Cancun.

A Thursday press statement by the Navy said the Cubans were given food and medical attention and taken to the mainland, where they were turned over to prosecutors.

The statement did not mention whether the vessel bore U.S. registration numbers. Immigrant traffickers frequently steal fishing boats in Florida to smuggle Cuban migrants through Mexico.

Cuban and Mexico signed an agreement that will take effect later this month to return undocumented Cuban migrants to the island.
