The police have killed nine militants and foiled an attempt to kidnap a person in northwestern Pakistan, the News Network International (NNI) news agency reported on Wednesday.
Some armed militants early Wednesday morning arrived in vehicles at Bazid Khel neighborhood in the outskirts of Peshawar, capital city of North West Frontier Province and tried to kidnap a person, said the report.
The police who were on alert in view of the growing incidents of kidnappings in Peshawar encountered the militants and exchanged fire, leaving nine militants dead.
Three police men were also injured, one of them critically, in the clash, according to the NNI.
The injured police men were rushed to the city's Lady Reading Hospital, reported Xinhua.
