Four Afghan police were killed as their van hit a mine in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province, the former stronghold of Taliban, provincial police chief Matiullah Qati said Saturday, Xinhua reported.
"The police were on routine patrol in Dand district on Friday night when a mine planted by militants was exploded by remote control killing the four policemen on the spot," Qati told Xinhua.
A similar incident claimed the life of a district chief in the eastern Khost province Saturday morning.
Taliban-led militancy and conflicts which had left over 5,000 people dead in 2008 in Afghanistan is predicted to go up this year.
