Slovakia started a day of national mourning Sunday for those who died in the worst traffic accident in years in the country.
A bus collided with a passenger train Saturday morning at a train crossing near the central town of Brezno, killing 12 people on board the bus and injuring 20 others.
The bus was carrying 35 people to a nearby skiing resort, Xinhua reported.
This was the deadliest traffic accident in recent years in Slovakia. Police were investigating the cause of the accident.
Mourning will last from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the country. National flags will be flown at half mast. Recreational programs have been canceled on television.
