Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will have his first meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama on March 14 in Washington, a Lula spokesperson said Thursday.
One topic of the meeting will be the tense relationship between the United States and Venezuela, which Lula has promised Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez he will mediate, the spokesperson told Xinhua.
In September 2008, Chavez expelled the U.S. ambassador in Caracas and called back the Venezuelan ambassador to Washington. Chavez took the action because he said the United States was interfering in Bolivia, Xinhua reported.
