Talks on alleged Armenian Genocid may affect U.S.-Turkey ties: Turkish PACE delegation head

Head of the Turkish delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Murat Mercan said during his meeting with U.S. congressmen that discussions on the alleged Armenian Genocide in Congress may have a negative effect on Ankara-Washington ties, TRT Haber reported.

"Discussions on the false Armenian Genocide in Congress can make the situation in the region tense. They may negatively impact Turkey-Armenia and Armenia-Azerbaijan ties," Mercan said.

Turkey-Armenia ties were severed in 1993 due to Armenia's genocide claims and occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands.
