Madagascan President Marc Ravalomanana might not resign but to hand over his authority to one of his trusted collaborators, probably his Minister of Defense Mamy Ranaivoniarivo, a reliable souse from the presidential house told Xinhua.
The source said that he had seen a letter of resignation of Ravalomanana but he was not sure if the president would read it to the island nation.
No official confirmation was available on the resignation of the president, first reported by the local private Antsiva Radio around 13:58 p.m. (1058 GMT) on Tuesday.
The radio has also said that President Ravalomanana might not resign but will hand over his authority to the military.
Although Radio Antsiva previously reported that the American Embassy here will take charge of the President, it later reported that the American Ambassador confessed that his visit to the presidential palace this morning was only to meet with the president rather than to save him and put him under protection.
