The tiny Pyrenean state of Andorra went to the polls Sunday to elect a new parliament, against the backdrop of an international crackdown on its status as a tax haven.

The most recent opinion polls suggested a change in power, with the opposition Socialist Party leading the ruling Liberal Party - in power for the past 14 years.

The historic statelet has only 84,500 inhabitants, and only around a quarter of those are actually entitled to vote. The majority of the population are immigrants from Spain, Portugal and France.

Andorra has until November to end its banking secrecy provisions, under pressure not least from President Nicolas Sarkozy of neighbouring France, reported dpa.
