The German government on Monday condemned the latest nuclear test by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), saying it was a provocation, Xinhua reported.
In a statement read out by Foreign Ministry spokesman Jens Ploetner here in Berlin, the German government accused the test of violating relevant resolutions of the United Nations (UN) and posing a threat to the peace and stability in the region.
The German government urged the DPRK leaders to avoid "further irresponsible attempts at provocation," said the statement.
The spokesman said Germany expected the UN Security Council to discuss the issue on Monday and pass a resolution.
Germany supported all measures that would lead to a peaceful solution in the region, he said.
Earlier on Monday, DPRK's official news agency KCNA said DPRK has successfully conducted "one more" underground nuclear test earlier in the day.
Previously on April 5, DPRK test-fired a long-range rocket which Western world believed as a missile.
The UN Security Council later adopted a presidential statement condemning the April 5 launch, and Pyongyang subsequently announced it was quitting the six-party talks on nuclear disarmament and would restart nuclear facilities in protest of the UN statement.
