Iran commences production of new supersonic rocket (UPDATE)

Iran began production of a new supersonic missile "Shaheen" of "surface-to-air" missiles, FARS said. Iranian Defense Minister Mustafa Najjar attended at the opening of the production.

Development of the missile guidance system, the software and launch the missiles had been fully carried out by Iranian experts, Najjar said.

According to him, the missile is able to find an enemy aircraft or helicopter at a distance of 40 kilometers and hit the goal with supersonic speed.

According to Najjar, "Shaheen" is one of the most difficult and important projects aftermath of the Revolution in Iran.
