"I know that the development of free press in the country is a prerequisite for successful development of the country," U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse told journalists on Wednesday. Derse appreciated freedom of press in the country.
"Being a journalist anywhere can be difficult. Journalists help develop freedom of speech and democracy in Azerbaijan," Derse said.
Journalists should be free from any attack and protected from persecution. I've witnessed in my three years here, a lot of positive changes in Azerbaijan and this will create good opportunities for press as well, she said.
