Egypt supports to hold conference on Middle East in Moscow: president

Cairo supports to hold an international conference on Middle East in Moscow by late 2009, Egyptian President Muhammad Hosni Mubarak said at a news conference during his Russian counterpart Dmitriy Medvedev's visit to Egypt, Vesti TV channel reported.

"We hope for holding a peace conference in Moscow, because Russia plays one of key roles in solving the Middle East conflict," Mubarak said.

Russia which is one of members of the Middle East "four" offers to hold a conference to advance the Arab-Israeli peace process, but this issue still remains open. Syria has not confirmed its participation, stating that it will attend the conference, if Israel agrees to return the Golan Heights, occupied in 1967.

Mubarak said Moscow's participation in the Middle East settlement as important as the efforts of the United States and other mediator-countries.

"Moscow has played one of key roles in settlement of the Middle East problem since its first day," the president of Egypt said.
