The deputy chief of Taliban in the insurgency-hit Swat valley in North West Frontier Province ( NWFP) has been killed, a local TV channel reported on Thursday.

The death of Shah Doran, deputy chief of Taliban in Swat Maulana Fazalullah, has been confirmed by government sources, Geo television reported.

Last month the NWFP government announced 20 million Pakistan rupees for tip-offs leading to his capture alive or dead, local newspaper The News said on its website, Xinhua reported.

The NWFP provincial information minister, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, said Wednesday there were reports that Shah Doran had been injured in military offensive in Swat Valley.

There is no reaction from the army to reports.

Shah Doran had been known for his speeches on Taliban's illegal FM radio and was considered to be the hardliner among the Taliban leadership.

He used to be very critical at opponents in his FM radio speeches and had been issued decrees against rivals.
