15 hurt when charter bus, semi collide in Kansas

Fifteen people were injured when a charter bus carrying students in a job training program collided with a tractor-trailer in northeast Kansas, overturned and briefly caught fire, Associated Press reported.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says the bus was making a legal U-turn about 2:20 p.m. Monday on a state highway west of Manhattan when a truck carrying construction materials struck it from behind. The bus skidded into the median, overturned and caught fire.

A spokeswoman at a Manhattan hospital says nine of the 15 people taken there were treated and released. Three others were expected to be released shortly and the last three were in stable condition.

The highway patrol says the bus was carrying students from the Flint Hills Job Corps Center in Manhattan home from a trip to Kansas City.
