Afghan forces and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in a joint operation against Taliban militants in eastern Kunar province eliminated two insurgents and detained four others, a press release of the troops said Thursday, reported Xinhua.
"Afghan National Army (ANA) and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldiers in the Pech district, Kunar Province, killed two senior insurgents and captured four others yesterday," the press release added.
It further stressed that the "two of the detained individuals are known insurgents, and were involved in Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks throughout the Pech area."
"The removal of these insurgents will lead to improved safety and security for local Afghans," the press release asserted.
Militancy has gone up since launching major offensive on July 2 against Taliban militants in the militancy-plagued Helmand province in south Afghanistan.
