Obama welcomes Iraqi leader, promotes health plan
President Barack Obama welcomes Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to the White House today for talks on political reconciliation efforts in Iraq, AP reported.
Reconciliation among Iraq's political leaders is seen as necessary to safeguard recent security gains, which remain fragile.
The two leaders will later take questions from the news media.
Health care is also on the president's agenda as he holds a prime-time news conference in his continued effort to prod Congress to act on his overhaul plan before lawmakers go on vacation.
