Venezuelan opposition mayor shot dead
Unknown gunmen have killed opposition Mayor Lluvane Alvarez as he entered his home, Police Chief Wilmer Flores Trossel says, according to Press TV.
In an interview with Venezuelan state television, the chief said on Saturday that investigators are trying to determine who was responsible for the attack and its motive.
"There's no hypothesis" and the deputy director of Cicpc, Capt. Luis Fernandez, along with other agents have been ordered to Tachira immediately to investigate the case, Flores said.
Alvarez was mayor of the Panamericano municipality in western Tachira state, the Associated Press reported.
