A man died and at least seven others suffered burn injuries as a gas line exploded at the head office of Bangladesh's state-owned Chemical Industries Corporation in the capital city Dhaka on Monday morning, a senior police officer said, Xinhua reported.
Officer-In-Charge of local Motijheel police station in Dhaka Arzu Miah told Xinhua on Monday," A man died and at least seven others suffered burn injuries as the gas line exploded at about 9: 30 a.m. local time."
The impact of the explosion tore parts of a window and threw it down across the road, he said, adding a fire also broke out on the same floor following the blast.
Arzu said primarily it seemed that the fire originated in the 3rd floor of the building after the gas line blasted and soon spread up to the 5th floor.
The fire brigade doused the blaze at around 10:45 a.m. local time.
Abdur Rashid, deputy director of the country's fire service department, said, "All the injured persons were rescued and rushed to the hospital."
But he could not cite the reason of the explosion at the head office of the corporation, which is located in the capital's central business district Motijheel. The corporation manages 13 large and medium size industrial enterprises engaged in producing a wide range of products like Urea, TSP, Paper, Cement.
