A British soldier has died as a result of an explosion in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has said, BBC reported.
The solider, of 33 Engineer Regiment, Royal Engineers was killed by the blast in Gereshk, in Helmand province, on the afternoon of 15 November 2009.
Task Force Helmand spokesman Lt Col David Wakefield praised the "courage and the sacrifice" of the serviceman. His next of kin have been informed.
The UK forces death toll in Afghanistan since 2001 now stands at 234.
Of these, 97 have occurred this year.
Period of grace
Speaking of the dead soldier, Lt Col Wakefield said: "His courage and the sacrifice made by him in the fight against improvised explosive devices in Helmand will not be forgotten."
The soldier's family have requested period of grace before further details are released.
He was the second serviceman to die on November 15. Details of the first death were released earlier.
The other serviceman, who was from 7th Battalion The Rifles, was killed a result of small arms fire.
He died while on patrol near Sangin in Helmand Province.
