Two dead in Las Vegas court shoot-out
A gunman opened fire at a federal courthouse in Las Vegas Monday killing a court security officer before being shot dead after a short chase. A US marshall was injured in the incident, dpa reported.
The unidentified shooter walked into the bustling courthouse lobby at about 8 am, pulled out a shotgun and shot the marshal and security officer, according to Las Vegas television station KPSP. Another court security officer apparently shot back, killing the gunman.
The US Marshals Service said authorities haven't determined a motive for the shooting.
Police and federal agents then swarmed the multi-storey building that houses federal courts and offices for officials including US Senate Majority leader Harry Reid and Senator John Ensign.
