Four suspected members of the Basque separatist group ETA have been arrested in France and Spain, the Spanish Interior Ministry said Sunday, dpa reported.

Police arrested one man and one woman who were said to be on Spain's most-wanted list near the town of Clermont-Ferrand in central France, the ministry said.

The newspaper El Mundo cited Spanish anti-terrorism sources as saying the two suspects were armed at the time of their arrest, and identified them as Inaki Iribarren Galbetep and Eider Uruburu Zabaleta.

It said the Civil Guard and French authorities had discovered a secret arms' cache in a mountainous region a few days earlier and were observing it. The arrest occurred when the couple were about to enter the hideout.

In the other case, police near the Portugal-Spain border captured a trailer filled with explosives and arrested one man and one woman.

The vehicle was registered in France and caused suspicion among police. The driver escaped when the officials attempted a search, but he was caught later. Police also arrested a female accomplice who had been driving ahead in another vehicle, the online edition of El Mundo reported.
