Spain's second-largest city Barcelona on Wednesday announced its candidacy to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, DPA reported.
Mayor Jordi Hereu said Barcelona wanted to "relive the Olympic dream" after organizing the Summer Olympics in 1992.
The sports events would be divided between the city itself and Pyrenean ski stations, Hereu explained at a press conference.
"Barcelona has a lot of possibilities" to be chosen, Hereu claimed, stressing that the city was "prepared and has experience."
Another northern Spanish city, Zaragoza, is also hoping to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.
The Spanish Olympic Committee is due to choose the country's candidate in 2013, and the International Olympic Committee will pick the host city in 2015.
