The Afghan government will establish a National Council for Peace and Reconciliation as part of efforts to bring security and stability to the country, President Hamid Karzai said in London Thursday, DPA reported.

"We must reach out to all of our countrymen, especially to our disenchanted brothers who are not part of al-Qaeda or other terrorist networks," Karzai told an international Afghanistan conference in London.

Establishment of the National Council would be followed by the convening of a peace jirga - an assembly of elders - in Afghanistan.

The London conference would discuss the "way forward to an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned initiative," he said.

Karzai presented a six-point action plan in which he pledged improved governance and the eradication of corruption in his government.

"Fighting corruption will be a key priority in my second term," pledged Karzai.

"Afghanistan is slowly but surely moving towards security and stability," he added.
