A Japanese man committed suicide in Taiwan Friday by jumping onto a railway line, DPA reported.

Ando Kunimitsu, 36, threw himself onto the track at the Neili railway station near Taipei and was killed by an oncoming train, deputy station master Lai Wen-ming said.

After seeing news about the suicide on TV, staff at the Han-Hsien International Hotel in Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan informed police that Kunimitsu had stayed at the hotel but was missing.

"He and two other Japanese businessmen checked in Tuesday and checked out Wednesday morning," said a hotel staff member, who gave only her surname Liang. "As the other two men boarded a coach to go to some other place, they realized Kunimitsu was missing."

Police said they were trying to find out why Kunimitsu committed suicide and were contacting his family in Japan.
