Sixteen people, including two South Korean tourists, were killed in two road accidents overnight in the Philippines, police reports said Wednesday.

The South Koreans were among seven people killed Tuesday night in a three-vehicle smash-up in Limay town in Bataan province, 30 kilometres west of Manila, dpa reported.

Police investigators said the Koreans were among the passengers of a van that rammed into a passenger bus while attempting to overtake a tricycle.

The van allegedly hit the tricycle first before colliding head-on with the approaching passenger bus.

Nine more people were killed before dawn Wednesday when a dump truck they were riding in fell into a ravine in Mlang town in South Cotabato province, 1,080 kilometres south of Manila.

The victims were on their way to attend pre-wedding festivities in the nearby town of Polomolok.

Police investigators were still determining the cause of the accident.
