US President Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh spoke by telephone Friday ahead of next week's inaugural strategic dialogue between the two countries, the White House said.

Top US and Indian officials will meet in Washington for two days of talks beginning Wednesday on a wide range of issues including economic development and trade, technology, civilian nuclear power and security issues, DPA reported.

Obama and Singh hope the talks will evolve into a regular exchange of ideas to promote tighter relations between the two countries.
