At least 17 teenagers were killed and three injured when a truck they were traveling in fell from a bridge in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia, RIA Novosti reported on Sunday according to the Latin American Herald Tribune.
"The school-aged passengers were riding in the open bed of a truck that was hit by a semi-trailer as it was traveling over a bridge near the town of Laje," the report said.
The truck fell from the height of 15 meters (50 feet), while the semi-trailer driver fled the scene without providing any assistance.
The victims were aged between 10 and 18 years and were returning from a school sporting competitions
