Clashes in Pakistan's Orakzai district have left 40 pro-Taliban militants and six Pakistani soldiers dead and injured many from both sides, Press TV reported.
The clashes erupted on Tuesday after dozens of pro-Taliban militants, with heavy weapons, attacked a checkpoint in the village of Karonchi, in the northwest, prompting a retaliatory attack by the paramilitary Frontier Corps.
No independent confirmation of the casualties could be obtained as the area is closed to journalists and aid workers, AFP reported.
