A one-armed man alleged to have taken part in the armed robbery of a New Zealand bar was arrested after being spotted feeding the proceeds into slot machines in a local tavern the next day, a newspaper reported on Saturday, dpa reported.
Police released closed circuit TV pictures of the raid on the bar at Orewa, 40 kilometres north of Auckland, showing the one-armed man holding a bag of loot as an accomplice held up staff with a rifle.
The pair escaped in a purple car with a "significant amount" of money, police said.
Detective Mark Palma told the New Zealand Herald that Orewa was a small district where people knew each other and word of the heist had gotten around.
He said the tavern owners were aware that one of the offenders was one-armed so they paid particular attention when a person with one arm appeared to be spending large amounts on slot machines the next evening.
Palma said the man had been charged with aggravated robbery and possessing illegal drugs.
