Reality contest judge set to take over from Larry King

Reality contest judge Piers Morgan is poised to take over CNN's hit interview show from Larry King and will earn between 5 million and 6 million dollars annually, according to the Hollywood Reporter Thursday DPA reported.

Morgan, 45, is a former editor of the British tabloid The Daily Mirror and is best known in the US for his role as a judge on the show America's Got Talent and for winning the 2008 season of Celebrity Apprentice.

The reports said that CNN was close to reaching a deal with NBC that would allow Morgan to take over from King while retaining his position on America's Got Talent, where he recently signed a 3 year contract.

Under the terms of the deal his role as a judge on the talent show would take precedent over his duties at CNN where his predecessor King hosted one of the most famous interview programmes in the world.

King, 76, announced his retirement last month after hosting Larry King Live for 25 years. The fate of the prime-time show is considered crucial to the future of CNN which has steadily been losing its audience to rivals like Fox New Channel and MSNBC as well as to internet news sites. dpa ag pr Author: Andy Goldberg
