Dalai Lama leads prayers for disaster victims
Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Saturday led a prayer service for the victims and families of those who have died in floods in India and Pakistan, wildfires in Russia and mudslides in China, reported DPA.
The prayer service was held at the north Indian hill town of Dharamsala, the Buddhist leader's headquarters in exile and was attended by hundreds of monks, nuns and followers, Tenzin Takhla, an aide to the Dalai Lama said.
"According to experts these very unusual floods and the devastating fires in Russia are symptoms of a deeper malaise occurring due to unprecedented global warming and other environmental causes," the Dalai Lama said in a statement on his website.
He said a concerted international effort was needed to develop measures to preserve the world's common ecology
