Tunnel reopens where 21 people died in German Love Parade crush

The site of a lethal crush which killed 21 and injured more than 500 at the German Love Parade festival this summer was reopened to traffic on Sunday, six weeks after the event, dpa reported.

City cleaners had to remove the last commemorative candles and flower bouquets from the road tunnel, which was used as a pedestrian access tunnel to the techno music party on July 24.

The previous day, a plaque was mounted remembering the victims, while letters and memorial items were placed in a glass cube, to serve as a commemorative box.

City authorities, event organizers and the police are embroiled in a blame game over perceived planning and security lapses ahead of the accident.
