The acting head of Mexico's Arrellano Felix drug smuggling cartel has been arrested in northern Mexico city of Tijuana, authorities said Friday, Xinhua reported.
Julio Cesar Heredia Magana, a top drug trafficker in the country, was caught at a safe house with two other men and a woman, said Alfonso Durate Mugica, a military commander in the area. Firearms and about 500 kg of marijuana were also seized at the scene.
Crackdown on drug smuggling has been a top policy priority of Mexican President Felipe Calderon since he took office in December 2006.
Tens of thousands of people were killed in drug-related violence since then. Latest news reports said 10 dead bodies were founded in the southern city of Mazatepec in a murder apparently related to drugs.
