An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale shook much of New Zealand's North Island on Friday evening.
  
The quake, occurred at 7.47 p.m. (0747 GMT), was centered 10 km east of the central North Island town of Tokoroa at a depth of 200 km, New Zealand's state geological agency GNS Science reported.
  
The quake was widely felt in the North Island and there were no reports of casualties or damages, Xinhua reported.
