Obama warns North Korea over nuclear weapons

US President Barack Obama on Thursday urged North Korea to rejoin the world community by ending its nuclear weapons programmes and reaffirmed Washington's unwavering support for South Korea, DPA reported.

"North Korea's continued pursuit of nuclear weapons will only lead to more isolation and less security," Obama told US troops stationed in South Korea before heading for a Group of 20 summit in Seoul.

Obama also condemned the sinking, allegedly by a North Korean torpedo, of a South Korean warship earlier this year, saying, "In the wake of this aggression, Pyongyang should not be mistaken: the United States will never waver in our commitment to the security of the Republic of Korea."

Obama's speech marked the Veteran's Day holiday in the United States.
