Indian President Pratibha Patil arrived in Damascus on Friday for a four-day official visit, the official SANA news agency reported.
Patil is scheduled to hold talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Saturday to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues, Xinhua reported.
The two countries have signed in June three agreements in the fields of trade and industry, the report said.
Al-Assad paid a visit to India in June 2008 when he held talks with Patil and other Indian officials on enhancing the relationship between the two countries.
According to SANA, India believes that as Syria intends to open its markets and embarks on massive development, there should be plenty of opportunities for India to expand its economic links with Syria.
