Criminal probe launched into Tu-154 accident - Investigative Committee

A criminal probe has been launched into the Tupolev Tu-154 plane accident that killed two and injured forty, the spokesman for Russian Investigative Committee, Vladimir Markin said on Saturday, RIA Novosti reported.

Two people were killed and 40 were injured when the Dagestan Airlines' Tupolev Tu-154 plane en route to Dagestani capital of Makhachkala skidded of the runway at Moscow's Domodedovo airport during an emergency landing.

Markin said that during the landing the third engine had failed, the plane skidded off the runway and then bumped into the ground buildings.

"A criminal case on article 263 part 3 [violation of the traffic safety rules and operating air transport] has been started," Markin said, adding that the best investigation criminologists of the central Investigative Committee's department as well as specialists from Moscow Investigative Committees headed to the Domodedovo airport.
