A suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden vehicle close to an army base in the northern province of Kunduz on Saturday, injuring five soldiers, a police official said.
The bomber died in the blast and three women in a nearby house were also injured, Char Darah district police chief Gholam Muhaiyudin said.
The bomber used a police vehicle that local militants had stolen recently, he said. The police chied did not provide information the condition of the injured, dpa reported.
The attack took place in Char Darah district, the most volatile district in the northern region. Taliban militants are active in Kunduz and neighbouring Baghlan province, both in the otherwise peaceful northern region.
Afghan and NATO forces have recently cleared several villages in the district of insurgents. The joint forces are said to continue their anti-Taliban operations throughout winter.
