NATO claims several insurgents killed, detained in Afghanistan

NATO forces killed several armed militants and detained more than 10 others in south-eastern Afghanistan, the alliance said Monday.

Troops conducted operations in the province of Khost targeting Haqqani leaders and killing several an unspecified number of rebels on Sunday, the alliance said, DPA reported.

NATO also detained more than 10 suspected insurgents from the Terayzai district, among them a Haqqani leader said to be responsible for coordinating bombing ambushes.

The Haqqani group has been responsible for several attacks on Afghan and international troops, including in Kabul city.

In the Bak district, the combined forces detained several suspected insurgents, NATO said.

No civilians were injured in the operations, NATO said.

At least 10 Afghan soldiers and four policemen were killed and 17 others injured in two separate suicide bombings on Sunday. Taliban took the responsibility.
