An explosion occurred at the French embassy in Mali Wednesday night, Mali's security and civil protection ministry confirmed through a statement broadcast on national television.

An explosion occurred at the French embassy in Mali Wednesday night, Mali's security and civil protection ministry confirmed through a statement broadcast on national television, Xinhua reported.
  
The North African assailant is said to have thrown an explosive device in front of the gate of the embassy in Bamako.

The statement said that the attacker was carrying a firearm which he had not used by the time he was being arrested by the security forces.

The Malian security and civil protection ministry did not either give the reasons for this attack nor the damage caused by this explosion.

A source who spoke to Xinhua on phone said that three people were injured following the explosion.

In Paris, the French Foreign Ministry confirmed that one of the embassy staff was slightly hurt. Security was immediately reinforced around the French embassy.
