Unknown attackers occupied a business complex in the eastern Afghan province of Nangahar on Saturday, triggering a gunbattle with police, an official said, DPA reported.
The gunmen seized Kamran Plaza in the centre of the provincial capital Jalalabad, said Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, a spokesman for the provincial governor.
Police surrounded the building and there was exchange of fire, he said.
The attack came a day after a suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden vehicle in the south-eastern city of Khost, killing eight people and injuring around 40.
