Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow is working on a new movie called Kill Bin Laden, which is set to be fast-tracked following the killing of the terrorist mastermind by US forces, the film industry news site Deadline.com reported Monday.

Bigelow, who became the first woman to win the best director Oscar for The Hurt Locker last year, started planning and casting the film in recent weeks, dpa reported.

Initially the film was to be based on an earlier unsuccessful mission by US forces to kill the al-Qaeda leader in the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan. But the new version will be updated with a "celebratory ending" the report said.

The film will reportedly be financed by Megan Ellison, the daughter of tech mogul Larry Ellison, and will star Australian actor Joel Edgerton, 36, who has previously appeared in Star Wars and is due to star in the upcoming fight movie, Warrior.
