The German government agreed Wednesday to extend the country's military operation in Kosovo by a further year, cabinet sources told the German Press Agency dpa.
Yet Chancellor Angela Merkel's cabinet agreed to reduce its troop contingent within the NATO-led KFOR operation to a maximum of 1,850, down from the current ceiling of 2,500.
The government proposal is expected to be approved in parliament by a sizeable majority, when it is put to the vote in June.
Around 1,100 German troops are currently stationed in Kosovo.
