An earthquake measuring 5.7 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted off the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 4:52 local time (2052 GMT) on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 23.9 km, was initially determined to be at 40.2563 degrees north latitude and 142.4527 degrees east longitude, Xinhua reported.
