Wartime SS guard John Demjanjuk, 91, left a German court a free man Thursday, despite a five-year sentence imposed for being an accessory to mass murder, the court taking into account time spent in prison pending trial, dpa reported.

The Munich court considered the two years he had spent in prison ahead of the lengthy trial and waived the prison sentence.

Earlier, the court found him guilty of being an accessory to at least 28,060 murders of Jews at Sobibor camp in German-occupied Poland during 1943.
