Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Monday that troops managed to evacuate six Americans and 11 Chinese from a naval aviation base as Taliban militants attacked it in the southern port city of Karachi, DPA reported.
Talking to reporters at the end of a 15-hour siege at Mehran base, he praised the troops who were able to get the foreigners working at the facility to a safe place.
Malik said 10 security personnel were killed and 15 injured in the fighting against about a half dozen attackers who raided the base late Sunday.
"I have seen the bodies of three dead terrorists, one is suspected to be hiding in the building while two are said to have fled during the initial encounter with security forces," he said.
