At least five people were killed and 13 others wounded when a powerful blast hit Pakistan's southwest city of Quetta on Wednesday morning, reported local Urdu TV channel Express.

At least five people were killed and 13 others wounded when a powerful blast hit Pakistan's southwest city of Quetta on Wednesday morning, reported local Urdu TV channel Express.

Over ten cars were also destroyed in the blast that occurred at about 9:50 a.m. Wednesday at a parking lot on the Alamdar road in the city, said local media reports, adding that nearby buildings were also partially damaged, Xinhua reported.

Police said that it was a remote-controlled bomb attack. They have cordoned off the area for search of other possible bombs.

All the injured have been shifted to nearby hospital. Conditions of the injured people are not known at this point.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast yet.

This is the first serious blast reported in Pakistan at the very beginning of Eid, a festival celebrated by all Muslims after one month of fast, which is officially observed from Aug. 31 to Sept. 3.
