PACE members have elected Jean-Claude Mignon as a new chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

Former head of the French delegation to PACE has worked in the Assembly since 1993. He will replace a member of the Turkish delegation Mevlut Chavushoglu as PACE chairman.

PACE chairman heads the Bureau, conducts the Assembly meetings and represents the organization in the world arena. According to the new rules, PACE chairman is elected for 2 years. The candidatures of the chairman are proposed by 5 PACE five major parties by turn.
